DSL vs. Cable Modems which is better?
Both Cable Modem and DSL services offer
high speed internet access. While similar in their ability to offer
high speed connections to the internet, these two services are
fundamentally different. Cable modems offer shared bandwidth (which
means your speed will degrade if some of your neighbors are using the
cable modem service at the same time) while DSL offers dedicated
local bandwidth. Typically Cable modems will offer faster download
speeds during non peak hours but will slow down considerably during the
peak hours of (5pm to 11pm). Your personal needs will determine which is
best for you.
In order to receive DSL service in your
home or business you must be within 18,000 ft. (about 3.5mi.) from the
nearest telephone exchange. So even if DSL service is offered in your
city, it is possible that the service still may not be available in your
neighborhood.
